Banarasi zari brocade
Embroidery with silver thread on silk appeared in a very special place in India. It is a 1000-year-old city, Benares or Varanasi, one of the oldest constantly inhabited places on Earth. This craft was born in 16th century Mughal Empire. Gorgeous floral and geometrical patterns woven with gold and silver on pure silk fabrics were decorating costumes of royalties and became well known and sought after all over India. For our chanderi silk kimonos, we use certified handwoven banarasi zari fabrics from Shivangi Kasliwal well-known supplier in India. These are made by original Varanasi masters.
